THE ICON OF ALL ICONS! ICON OF THE SEAS THROUGH THE EYES OF A SEASONED CRUISER

By Hen Zannini

Icon of the Seas Experience

ICON DEFINITION:  a thing widely admired, especially for having great significance in a particular sphere (Merriam-Webster)

That thing would be the phenomenal Icon of the Seas! The Icon's great significance is that it is the biggest, most massive, fun-filled ship on the ocean in the sphere of the world’s cruise industry!  And I know this, because I’ve had the pleasure of taking a seven-night cruise on this beauty.  From the eight “Neighborhoods” to the top-notch entertainment to the various and tasty restaurants to the many pools and beautiful cabins—and so much more—I’m sharing my personal experiences and pictures with you aboard the Icon of the Seas.  There is so much amazing and intriguing information to share, that I don’t even know where to start lol!

About Me:

Hen on Icon of the Seas
Hey, it's me!

Hello! My name is Henryce Zannini, but I go by the nicknames “Hen” and “Auntie Hen.” As you will see, I am an enthusiastic cruiser, with 60 cruises under my belt! And 57 of those cruises have been with Royal Caribbean.  I am definitely “Loyal to Royal” and can’t wait to share my experiences with you!

First Look:

I suppose the best place to start is at the very beginning, which is checking in at the Royal Caribbean terminal at the Port of Miami. The check-in process is literally so smooth that there really isn’t much to say—it is simple and fast!  When you arrive, simply hand your luggage to a porter.  Be sure to have luggage tags attached to all of your suitcases.  If you don’t have your luggage tags, simply show the porter your boarding pass, and he will make them for you. That’s it for your luggage! The next time you’ll see your suitcases is sometime between 1 pm and 8 pm, when they’re delivered to your cabin.  Oh, that reminds me—if you have anything you might need (medication, personal items, etc.) before your luggage is delivered, be sure to keep it with you in a backpack, purse, or carry-on).

Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, simply follow the signs to walk inside the terminal. Be sure to have your passport/appropriate ID in hand. The outside lines might look long, but trust me, they move super fast! Once you’re indoors, it’s a piece of cake.  You’ll be on the Icon in a matter of just a few minutes! And once onboard, you can do anything your heart desires—eat at one of the many complimentary venues, check out the pools, stroll the Royal Promenade, book a specialty restaurant (if you so desire), explore the Neighborhoods—your choices of what to do are almost endless!

My very first stop is the Main Dining Room (MDR). I like to see where my assigned table is located so I’m not searching for it at dinner time. I simply tell the maître ‘d my cabin number, and he/she tells me my table number. Your table number is on your Sea Pass, but you won’t get that until 1 p.m. Your Sea Pass serves as your stateroom key and is linked to your credit/debit card for your onboard account.

I could go on and on, but then this would just be way too long, So I’m going to continue sharing my experiences in future posts on the many, different Icon of the Seas amenities and happenings. Hope to see you on board for my next post:  Icon of the Seas Food and Dining!
